Trusted Execution Partners
The Roof Shepherd is a guidance and documentation brand. Physical roof installation, replacement, and construction work is executed by licensed contractors. This page makes that role separation explicit.
Role Clarity
Two roles. One homeowner outcome.
The Roof Shepherd’s Role
Condition documentation, homeowner education, inspection explanation, repair vs. replacement guidance, materials education, contractor vetting support, and project coordination. The Roof Shepherd does not hold a roofing contractor license and does not install, replace, or repair roofing systems.
Licensed Contractor’s Role
Physical installation, repair, and replacement of roofing systems. Material procurement, crew deployment, warranty issuance, and any work requiring a contractor license. The contractor is responsible for the quality of execution work.
Before Any Work Begins
What to verify about any execution partner.
| Item | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| General Liability Insurance | Certificate of Insurance naming property owner as certificate holder | Covers property damage during the project |
| Workers’ Compensation | Active WC coverage or documented waiver per Texas law | Covers crew injuries on your property |
| RCAT Membership | Current membership in Roofing Contractors Association of Texas | Industry trade association — not a regulatory credential, but signals professional engagement |
| Manufacturer Certification | GAF, Owens Corning, or other manufacturer-specific certification level | Affects warranty eligibility — highest-tier warranties require certified installers |
| Physical Address | Verifiable local or regional business address (not mailbox or virtual office) | Storm chasers frequently use temporary addresses |
| Written Scope | Line-item written proposal before any work begins | Verbal scopes are unenforceable — everything agreed to should be in writing |
Texas does not require a state-issued roofing contractor license. The above items represent best-practice verification, not a complete legal checklist.
